“I signed up for the free class because I had absolutely no experience with Muay Thai. At first, I was nervous and a little scared, but the coach was really nice and patient with me, especially since I had no idea what I was doing. Overall, I had a great experience, and everyone there was very welcoming. I hope to come back soon!”

“No bullies or tough guys here”
“The best gym with the best instructors and a family atmosphere. No bullies or tough guys here. Only down to earth good people who are there to learn and help others do the same.”

“We all left feeling amazing”
“Took the trial class with the whole family: my wife, our 5 yr old son, my cousin-in-law, and myself. We all left feeling amazing and having a great time. My son had such a good time all he could talk about was coming back. Great experience all around and the consensus is that we are joining and making it a Monday through Friday family tradition.”

“I came here because I wanted to quit smoking, get back in shape, and learn some self defense. I had no experience at all and started with the free trial.”

“Out of all the jiu jitsu gyms that I have trained at in San Francisco, the instructors here are on another level. Solid instruction and they take their time to make sure you learn.”

Getting started
Starting a martial art shouldn’t feel intimidating.
Most people wait for the “right time” to start. Out of shape, no experience, afraid of getting hurt. At AB MMA, none of that is a problem.
No experience needed.
✕Feeling too out of shape or too new to walk in.
Beginner classes break down every technique, step by step.
No ego on the mat.
✕Worrying about rough partners and getting hurt.
Controlled, respectful training, partners matched by level.
No. Beginners don’t spar in their first class. Sparring comes later, only when you feel ready, and always controlled with protective gear.
Do I need gloves?
Not for your free class. If you don’t have gloves or hand wraps yet, let us know when we confirm your class and we’ll help you get set up.
Do I need any experience to join?
No. Most of our students start with zero experience. Every program has beginner-friendly classes and our coaches break down each technique step by step.
What classes do you offer?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi and No-Gi), Muay Thai, Boxing, Capoeira, Cardio Combat, Open Mat and a Kids Program. See the class schedule for times.
What is the minimum age for kids?
Our Kids Program starts at 4 years old and runs up to 14, split by age so every child trains with kids their size and level.
I'm out of shape. Should I get fit first?
No. You don’t get in shape to start training, you start training to get in shape. Beginner classes are built for every fitness level, and you set your own pace.
Will I get hurt?
Safety comes first. Beginners train at a controlled pace, partners are matched by size and level, and coaches watch every round. There’s no ego on our mat.
Am I too old to start?
No. We have students who started in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond. Martial arts is a skill you can learn at any age.
My child is shy. Will they be OK?
Yes. Many of our kids start shy. Coaches use games and small wins to build confidence, and parents can watch the first class.
What should I bring to my first class?
Comfortable workout clothing and a water bottle. No gear purchase is needed before your free trial class.
How much does it cost?
Plans start at $180/month on the Annual plan. Monthly is $260/month, with Quarterly, Semiannual and Family plans in between. See all plans. Your first class is always free.
What does the free trial class include?
A full class in the program of your choice, a personal introduction with one of our coaches and a tour of the academy. No commitment, no credit card, no pressure.
